![]() ![]() While it is not the fastest of the three shredders it is the quietest, runs the longest and has the most capacity bin. Because it is a micro-cut type it takes a little bit longer to shred paper than my cross-cut Staples and strip cut Fellows brands, but the outcome is smaller, more secure pieces that are impossible to re-assemble. The Sentinel Pro FMC120P is a nice shredder. I'm still very, very pleased with it and feel it does a spectacular job of making my paper trash completely unreadable. I give this shredder 4 stars because of the poor CD shredding performance and the oddly narrow shredding port. You can use shredder oil or oil-impregnanted sheets designed for this purpose. Maintenance is like for all shredders - keep the bin emptied regularly and keep the shredding blades lubricated. It's not a deal breaker for me but it is an annoyance. ![]() Oversized paper must be folded before shredding and you have to be careful when feeding in a stack of paper that it doesn't spread out wider than about 9". My main disappointment is that the shredding port slot is only about 9" wide. This one seems to run cool and I've yet to have it heat up to the point of shutting down. Some shredders will shut down within just a few minutes of shredding. This shredder, like most of them, has a safety override that will shut the shredder down when the motor heats to a certain point. The bin has two roller feet on the back that make it so easy to remove and replace the bin for emptying. This isn't a big deal to me as I rarely shred CDs but if you commonly need to destroy CDs or DVDs, I wouldn't recommend this particular shredder. It just sort of breaks the CDs into chunks rather than shredding them into strips. It will also destroy CDs and credit cards via a separate slot on top but I don't think it does an exceptional job on CDs. I think it may shred slightly slower although not annoyingly so. It makes about as much noise as my old Dirt Devil shredder. I also notice this seems to help you feed the paper in straight. Not only is it safer for small children in the home but it keeps things from accidentally falling into the shredder and causing blade damage. One thing I noticed right away is that although this is a top-feed shredder, there is a plastic lip over the shredding port so you put the paper in at a slight angle and it is directed down into the shredding blades. It will not function if the bin is even slightly pulled out. If they don't, check to make sure the bin is pushed all the way in. The buttons will light up to let you know it's ready to shred. To use it, plug the shredder in and flip the power switch located on the top left of the back of the shredded. You can shred an enormous pile of paper without having to empty the bin! No one can piece this stuff back together and another bonus of such a fine shred is that it compacts much more in the bin and the trash bag. The micro-cut shred is super, super tiny. It has a pull-out bin with an almost 8 gallon capacity! It's on castors (two of which lock) for ease of use and storage and it can handle up to 12 sheets of paper at a time - staples and all. The Sentinel Pro FMC120P is a semi-commercial shredder. I know, however, that it will eventually fail so I was happy to get the opportunity to review this shredder from Sentinel Pro. Woo hoo! I realized that was the way to go and that shredder has served me well for several years. It made the resulting shred much harder to piece together for a determined thief, but the rest of the annoyances were still there.įinally, I got a shredder similar to this one with a large, pull out bin. Next, I got a similar shredder except this one did cross cut shredding. It was a pain because I had to stop and empty the trash can so often and the shredder part was heavy. I started with one of those little units that sit on top of a small trash can and turned paper into long, thin strips. Your trash is now treasure for identity thieves and one of the important things we can do to protect ourselves is to shred. Long gone are the days when you can casually dump all that paper in the trash. We all get bills and notices and statements and credit card offers in the mail on a daily basis. ![]()
